The course in crystallography is intended for second-year STU (Earth and Universe Sciences) students (3rd semester, LMD system). It consists of two chapters:

Chapter 1: Geometric Crystallography, which includes a general study of the crystalline state:

  • The geometric states of matter.
  • The fundamental laws of crystallization.
  • Geometric study of point lattices.
  • The 7 crystal systems and the 14 Bravais lattices.
  • Orientation symmetry and the 32 symmetry classes.
  • Examples of crystal structures.

Chapter 2: Geometric Optics.

  • Review of optics.
  • Light propagation in crystalline media.
  • Refractive index.
  • Birefringence.
  • Indicatrices.
