The course "History of Architecture" is intended for first-year undergraduate students, "Project Management" option during the first semester. It traces the evolution of architecture during three periods of history: prehistory, antiquity and the Middle Ages. It covers the context of emergence and the characteristics of the different architectural styles, as well as the technical innovations specific to each style.


  • Course objectives :
  1. Know the characteristics of the different architectural styles that followed one another from antiquity to the end of the Middle Ages,
  2. Know the construction techniques developed in each architectural style,
  3. To create a precise and diverse architectural vocabulary,
  4.  Apply the knowledge acquired in the analysis of the buildings studied (in the history tutorials or in other modules), 
  5. To raise awareness of the importance of each architectural style in the evolution of the field of architecture.

Prehistory

Chapter 1: Prehistory and the first shelters.

Antiquity

Chapter 2: Mesopotamian architecture.

Chapter 3: Egyptian architecture égyptienne.

Chapter 4: Greek architecture.

Chapter 5:  Roman architecture.

The middle ages

Chapter 6: Romanesque architecture

Chapter 7: Gothic architecture

Chapter 8: Byzantine architecture
