The Introduction to Linguistics for Middle School Teachers course provides educators with a foundational understanding of how language works and how this knowledge can enhance language teaching and learning in the classroom. It introduces key areas of linguistics—such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics—while emphasizing their practical relevance to teaching English to middle school students. This course introduces students to the fundamentals of academic writing in English. It develops their ability to construct sentences, build coherent paragraphs, and apply the writing process across different genres. Emphasis is placed on accuracy, organization, and critical awareness of writing as a tool of communication and teaching.

The course emphasizes both receptive (listening) and productive (speaking) skills, helping students engage in effective communication, give clear instructions, ask and answer questions appropriately, and manage classroom interactions professionally. By the end of this course, students will have the linguistic and pedagogical tools to communicate naturally in English and to model accurate language use for their future learners.

The Grammar for Middle School/ Pre-service Teacher-Student course is designed to enhance teachers’ mastery of English grammar and their skills in presenting it effectively to young learners. It explores essential grammatical elements—such as parts of speech, sentence structures, and verb tenses—through engaging, learner-centered methods that connect grammar to real communication and literacy development. Participants learn to simplify complex grammar concepts, create interactive and meaningful activities, address common language difficulties, and integrate grammar naturally into all language skills. By the end of the course, teachers will be able to deliver grammar lessons that are clear, enjoyable, and suited to the learning needs of primary school students.
