This course provides a concise introduction to paragraph organization and reading comprehension, emphasizing the structure of paragraphs, including topic sentences, supporting details, and concluding sentences. It develops students’ ability to understand different types of paragraphs (descriptive, comparative/contrastive, process, opinion...) and patterns of text organization while identifying the author’s purpose in diverse texts such as narrative, descriptive, and expository passages. The course also enhances genre awareness, particularly in narrative texts, by focusing on key elements such as characters, events, setting, and time sequence, thereby strengthening students’ academic reading skills and overall communicative competence in English.
