The objectives of the first semester vary according to students’ needs. Learners are introduces with different tips of using thesaurus and dictionaries, then the roles and functions of punctuation marks, after that they differ between parts of a sentence from the phrase to the four types of sentences. Regarding this, students learn how to write using different sentence types and avoid choppy sentences as well as long ones. Through this, learners will know the different rules of wordiness and parallelism.
The objectives cover writing different types of paragraphs and use linking transitional words and phrases. At last they learn how to write good introduction and conclusion. In addition, students will discover how to write effective paragraph types like descriptive, process, opinion, comparison/ contrast paragraphs
